Making of a Momobunny Keycharm
1
It's so good to be back and crafting again for momomints. When M and I started this project, I was actually away in Sydney, working and traveling for a year. And as much as I loved Australia, I was anticipating my return to Vancouver, Canada so I could physically be a part of momomints. Overseas, I was designing and managing the website while M was here at home creating products and doing deliveries. Things do get busy and it was difficult for us to completely focus on momomints when we were on opposite sides of the world. Despite that, it was great getting our feet wet with our website launch and great building up our brand. I knew right away that once I got back, I would jump right in and create something new for momomints, and this is how our new product, the momobunny keycharms came to existence! I've been making keycharms for over 7 years now. They were usually made as gifts for friends and just as little keepsakes for myself. When people receive them, I'm not sure they actually knew how much work went into making one of these charms. The time and effort is not something that I mind investing though, a gift that is that personalized and made with that much thought just shows how much you care about someone, and that is something I wanted to share with all of our momomints products. [caption id="attachment_459" align="aligncenter" width="484"]Molding polymer clay to form all of little momobunny's parts Molding polymer clay to form all of little momobunny's parts[/caption] This was my first time creating my keycharms in batches! And I must say, it was quite cute and fun to take pictures along the way. I start off with a premium polymer clay which I roll into many many tiny little balls! These are then individually shaped to form all the little parts of momobunny. Each part is then combined and smoothed together using different wooden picks. My tool of choice? A toothpick! [caption id="attachment_456" align="aligncenter" width="484"]polymer clay momobunnies ready for oven-baking polymer clay momobunnies ready for oven-baking[/caption] Once all the bunnies are formed, I place them onto a baking sheet and pop them in the oven for about 30-40 minutes to cure. [caption id="attachment_460" align="aligncenter" width="484"]Fresh out of the oven Fresh out of the oven[/caption] Each bunny is inspected after the baking to ensure they are fully cured and ready for painting. [caption id="attachment_461" align="aligncenter" width="484"]My supplies and tools to make a keycharm My supplies and tools to make a keycharm[/caption] The fun part! Maybe I find this fun because I'm an engineeer, but I get to pull out my pliers! Using two sets of pliers I bend and clamp each bunny with some jump rings and a mini split ring. [caption id="attachment_457" align="aligncenter" width="363"]Sanding before silver eye pins, jump rings, and split rings are attached Sanding before silver eye pins, jump rings, and split rings are attached[/caption] Sanding is sometimes required to smooth out any rough edges on the bunnies. I use a regular double sided two grit nail file for this. [caption id="attachment_458" align="aligncenter" width="484"]Hand-painted and air-dried Hand-painted and air-dried[/caption] Working like an assembly line, I paint multiple coats of white and red acrylic paint for each momombunny keycharm. Eyes are dotted on and oh those cute blushing cheeks aren't forgotten! After letting the paint fully dry for a night, I paint on 2-3 coats of glossy polymer clay glaze to protect each keycharm to make it durable for some abuse. [caption id="attachment_462" align="aligncenter" width="484"]All packaged up and ready for delivery! All packaged up and ready for delivery![/caption] We hope that with taking our customers behind the scenes, you can see how much love is put into our products at momomints. Some people ask how long it takes me to make my products and if it's worth it in the end? To us, it's a passion to create and share these handmade gifts with you all. If you support us in what we do, to aspire a dream, it means everything to us. momobunny keycharms are now available in our store and more pictures are available on our Facebook Page. Please share the love!

Eee I love this! I’m new to making things with polymer, so it was definitely interesting for me to see this process. If you ever feel so inclined, I’d love to see a video tutorial!
