You scream, I scream, we all scream for … ice-cream Jumbo Ice-cream Bunnies!
It has been more than a year since we first released our popular ice-cream bear keychains and we thought it was time to add to the collection. We love bunnies and so it was fitting that we created ice-cream bunnies but with a twist…in a kawaii jumbo size!

Big enough to hug and handmade with lots of care. It’ll surely make any room extra cute!
For our May limited edition amigurumi product Marissa created a coconut rainbow sprinkle ice-cream bunny. She wanted to use white yarn for the ice-cream so that the rainbow sprinkles would stand out so she looked into her yarn stash and found a super fluffy skein of white yarn that she used for the white amigurumi sheeps. Then she chose some extra vibrant colours of embroidery floss for the sprinkles. The finished product is an extra fluffy and soft amigurumi ice-cream bunny.

The other two flavours she created were classic strawberry and mint chocolate chip. Marissa loved experimenting with different types of yarn for the ice-cream. It gives each ice-cream bunny a different kind of look and feel.

Momomints Limited Edition White Bunny Polymerclay Keychain

Momomints Limited Edition White Bunny Polymerclay Keychain

Even before Momomints started, Sami use to make little charms with polymer clay as presents for her friends for special occasions like birthdays. The first one Sami made was inspired by a special birthday gift that she received of a Teru Teru Bozu doll.

Momomints Limited Edition White Bunny Polymerclay Keychain

Teru Teru Bozu dolls are little Japanese handmade dolls that farmers made out of white paper or cloth that look similar to ghosts made on Halloween here in North America. They were made to help bring good weather and ward away rainy days.

The basic shape of a Momomints charm is still inspired by this Japanese doll. All of our charms have large round heads, and smaller cylindrical bodies.

We are so happy now to see that our little charms are now shared with those all around the world. We only hope that they bring the same love that we put into them to their new owners. And maybe they will also bring along good weather and keep away any rainy days.

This month’s limited edition one of a kind Momomints charm is a Momobunny with a mint coloured shirt, holding a little carrot. Find him on our Etsy shop.

Free Amigurumi Crochet Potted Cactus Plant Plattern by Momomints

Can you believe it’s already July?! We’re half way through the year which means we are already busy planning and prepping for the busy holiday season! It seems a bit crazy to be thinking about Christmas ornaments in July but we’re pretty excited about all the things we have planned. Which you will have to wait and see 🙂

In the meantime, we found an old pattern for a cactus bunny pin cushion. M made this pincushion to store all her pins and needles when assembling the amigurumis so they don’t get lost. Plus the pins and needles look like the cactus spikes. Please continue reading for the free amigurumi cactus bunny pin cushion pattern!

For the body and ears you will be using the back stitch technique. The back stitch is inserting your crochet hook through the back ‘v’ stitch of the next chain. Please see this very informative tutorial on the freshstitches blog. She does an excellent job at explaining how to do the back stitch .

Marissa and Sami of Momomints at our first Portobello West Craft Fair in Vancouver!

The Portobello West Spring into Summer 2014 Craft Fair in Vancouver was a big hit for Momomints! It was our first Spring craft market and we were more than excited to showcase our spring handmade products including new amigurumi stuffed toys, keychains and housewares, as well polymer clay keychains and stationery gifts. We brought along our new Peas in a Pod couple, DIY Amigurumi Sheep kits, Paperclip Organizers, Orca Whale keycharm keychains and SO much more!

The Peas in a Pod couple set proved to be a big hit during this spring craft fair. With wedding season near, many customers dropped by to buy them as wedding gifts for friends and family.

We also featured our very much coveted Momobunny Wedding Couple for the first time at a craft fair! We had always made them as custom orders but thought they would be the perfect featured product for our Portobello West booth.

Our time at the Creekside Recreation Centre at the Olympic Village for Portobello West was truly memorable, as it was the first time that we got the chance to meet many new and well established local Vancouver vendors! Everyone was super friendly in sharing their experiences and tips with us! There is such a supportive community of artisans and crafters in Vancouver.

Momomints with our neighbor Noriko of Dancing Leaf Design

Our neighbor Noriko, of Dancing Leaf Design, was especially kind. She has been attending craft fairs for years and had lots of encouraging words for us. It was nice to have the little chats with her in the mornings when setting up and seeing her beautiful jewelry the in corner of our eyes was always a treat! She makes lovely lace integrated jewelry that you have to see for yourself! You could tell that all her customers loved her dearly and she had many friends and returning customers. You can find her jewelry at local shops in Vancouver, see her Etsy Shop for more details: Dancing Leaf Design.

To our left was the lovely duo of Makers&Co, who came showcasing their handmade ceramics. All their items were beautifully handcrafted and unique in design! They were new to the scene so we can’t wait to see more of them at future shows and events! Keep up to date through their Instagram: Makers&Co.

Making new friends with C Yarn Hut’s amigurumi handmade gifts

It’s especially exciting to meet artists who share the same craft as us, so we would have to thank Portobello West for giving us the opportunity to meet Clara of C Yarn Hut. Clara is also and amigurumi artist and the first that we have met in Vancouver!

What’s so amazing about Clara is that she has handmade the biggest amigurumi stuffed toy that we have ever seen! “Clarissa” actually took Clara 3 months to crochet and we are in total awe! Maybe she can teach us how to make a giant Momobunny someday.

Her booth featured many whimsical handmade amigurumi gifts and crochet accessories. We have a lot to learn from her as her booth display was very well done! You can tell she is an experienced craft fair vendor. You can find out more about Clara and her creations on her website at C Yarn Hut, but we’re sure to see her again at future craft fairs!

Katherine of Foe & Dear with the girls of Momomints at Portobello West 2014

With a sweet and clever name like Foe and Dear, you need not expect any less from Katherine. It was very sweet of her to come visit us at our booth and express her love for our handmade products and Instagram account. But if you’re a regular craft fair shopper in Vancouver,  you’d be quite familiar with the beautifully delicate jewelry designs of Foe and Dear. She’s quite the celebrity in our eyes and you can see it for yourself on her website: Foe and Dear.

Definitely one of the sweetest vendors that we had the privilege to finally meet was Lana of LanaBetty! We have been following her on Instagram and loving her stuff and she has been doing the same but we never had the chance to actually introduce ourselves to her till last weekend at Portobello West!

We’ve seen how hard she works on Lanabetty and were glad we had the chance to share our appreciation to her in person. Lana makes beautiful jewelry, with our favourite being her 3D printed line: Geometric Desires. We can’t wait to get our custom Momomints inspired necklace from her! If you’re looking for bold and unique jewelry, we highly recommend checking out Lana’s work.

Not only did we make many new friends participating in Portobello West but we also had many friends and family, Facebook fans, and Instagram followers visit us! This included the girls from Crafted Van, Anita of Make More Happy, Erica of shopmochi, Angela of dowantmakeup, and more! We apologize if we’ve forgotten, our brains were a bit frazzled from craft fair madness!

Momomints with the owners of Lemonlemonpie

To top everything off though, we were visited by the couple behind Lemonlemonpie! This goes way back for us, when we first wanted to open our own shop. We remember seeing their products and the success their Etsy shop was having and the behind the scenes photos of them packing TONS of orders, wondering  when we could ever be like that. It was inspiring and we’ll never forget their super adorable animal pillows. They have since taken a break from their shop but we still follow them on social media! It meant so much to us when they became fans of our work. Thanks so much to these two for coming out to meet us and supporting our shop!

Thanks again so much to Portobello West for hosting an amazing craft fair for all the vendors. They were very organized and active in promoting all of us and making the event something we’d love to attend again. Not only had we met lots of new friends but we’ve also learned a lot! We’ll take all this and continue to grow our business! Thanks again to everyone who supports and believes in us ~ M&S.
