We will once again be a vendor at the Etsy Vancouver Market: Made in Canada event on Sept 24 and 25! This will be our 3rd time participating and we couldn’t be more excited! If you ever attended one of the previous events as a customer or vendor you will know exactly how we feel. This market is one of our most favourite markets to attend because of the atmosphere, vendors and lovely people that come and shop.

This year the Etsy Vancouver Market will take place over two days and is located in the beautiful Pipe Shop building in North Vancouver. So now you have two days to come visit over 90+ vendors and make an awesome day of it. There will be swag bags given away again this year to the first 50 shoppers each day and a scavenger hunt to win an amazing gift basket filled with handmade goodies.  You will have a chance to win one of our cute canvas tote bags in the gift basket or one of our limited edition button pins for this years market in some of the swag bags.

You scream, I scream, we all scream for … ice-cream Jumbo Ice-cream Bunnies!
It has been more than a year since we first released our popular ice-cream bear keychains and we thought it was time to add to the collection. We love bunnies and so it was fitting that we created ice-cream bunnies but with a twist…in a kawaii jumbo size!

Big enough to hug and handmade with lots of care. It’ll surely make any room extra cute!
For our May limited edition amigurumi product Marissa created a coconut rainbow sprinkle ice-cream bunny. She wanted to use white yarn for the ice-cream so that the rainbow sprinkles would stand out so she looked into her yarn stash and found a super fluffy skein of white yarn that she used for the white amigurumi sheeps. Then she chose some extra vibrant colours of embroidery floss for the sprinkles. The finished product is an extra fluffy and soft amigurumi ice-cream bunny.

The other two flavours she created were classic strawberry and mint chocolate chip. Marissa loved experimenting with different types of yarn for the ice-cream. It gives each ice-cream bunny a different kind of look and feel.

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a well rested and lovely Holidays! 2015 was such an amazing year for us from our first wholesale order from Kelly of Little Blue Canoe to being featured on Etsy’s IG feed.  Thank you for your constant support!  We’ve already started dreaming up and planning ideas to make 2016 even better!

To start off the year we have an awesome announcement for you all. As you can tell from the title of this blog post…our amigurumi stuffed keychains are on display right now at the RESOBOX World Amigurumi Exhibition in NY!  Already in its second year, this exhibition showcases amigurumi from talented artists all around the world. This year the theme is crocheted culture. Where artists would create amigurumi pieces that showed the culture of where they are from such as cultural clothing, national colours, landscape etc.

For this exhibition we sent some of our orca whales. Orca whales are often associated with the West Coast of BC.

Orca whale plush keychains - inspired the lovely whales in our local waters in British Columbia, Canada. Have you seen them stocked in our Etsy shop along with our blue whales?
We also sent some of our Mint Mint bunnies, ice-cream bears and fluffy bunnies as well.
If you are in the area be sure to check out this wonderful exhibition. Imagine a room filled wall to wall with amigurumi. And if you spot something you like you can purchase it! Wish we could visit the exhibition in person!

Please feel free to share pics with us if you spot our amigurumi there hanging out with other awesome amigurumi friends.

Little Blue Canoe and Momomints Paperclip Bookmarks

Little Blue Canoe and Momomints Paperclip Bookmarks

We’ve been keeping this one on the down low for quite some time now, but we are so happy to finally tell you all about this awesome new online shop that has just launched called Little Blue Canoe! It is also our first stockist!

Little Blue Canoe was founded by Kelly and is based in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Kelly contacted us at the beginning of the year asking if we’d like to be a part of her shop and of course we said yes! Not only is Little Blue Canoe helping the handmade community but all the items are specially curated. You will find a range of items from greeting cards and stationary to throw pillows and candles. Plus, every item in Little Blue Canoe is Made in Canada!

We asked Kelly a few questions to get to know Little Blue Canoe a little better.

1. Tell us a little about yourself?
I am a born and raised Calgarian. I am a Wife to a very loving and supportive Husband and Mom to two little energetic boys. I am happiest when I get to send or receive mail. It literally makes me giddy. When I see a roll of stamps in my Christmas stocking, my heart genuinely skips a beat. I actually have almost every single birthday, thank you, congratulations, sorry, or “just because” card that I have ever been given. I love looking back and reading what a friend, family member, teacher, or co-worker has written to me. You can’t buy that. I also enjoy lattes, the smell of the ocean, building forts with my kids, a delicious eggs benny (brunch is my favourite meal), and singing in the car. Ha, I sound like I am filling out a dating profile.

2. What made you want to open up your shop LittleBlueCanoe?
I have always had a calling to do something to fulfill my creative side. I have been blessed with the path I’ve gone down, but something seemed to be missing. I can’t begin to tell you how “right” I felt, once I started to make my dream a reality. As much work as it has been to get to this point, it truly hasn’t felt “like work” (again, the classic cliche). I honestly now know why people say it all the time. If you are doing something you love, it won’t feel like work. I am not saying this will be easy-breezy, or that there won’t be bad days, but those moments will likely be blunted thanks to the passion and excitement I feel for Little Blue Canoe.

3. How did you come up with the name for your shop?
When I was younger, my family actually had a blue canoe that we would enjoy paddling around in. Also, because I live in Alberta, we have access to some of the most gorgeous lakes in the world. When I wanted my business to highlight Canadian companies, I sat and thought of an image that felt “Canadian”. For me, that was a canoe moving across Lake Louise or Moraine Lake with the majestic mountains and huge trees as an amazing backdrop. By tying together something that felt Canadian and a great memory I had as a kid, I went with “Little Blue Canoe”. It was a name that came to me and I loved it more and more. I wanted to celebrate our beautiful country that we are so lucky to live in!

4. We know your shop just opened but are there any upcoming plans for LittleBlueCanoe that you can share with our readers?
Ha! I probably have TOO many plans. My brain never turns off, and I am “always thinking” (as my Husband would say). I don’t want to do “too much, too soon”, and will continue to focus on the amazing vendors that I currently work with, while being open to sourcing new ones. I would also like to create a few “Little Blue Canoe exclusive” items that are only found in my shop. I have some fun ideas in my head and can’t wait to make them a reality. Of course, I hope my customers agree! It would also be nice to do fun collaborations with my vendors and create something that we and our customers would both enjoy.

5. What is your favourite quote?
“Leap and the net will appear” (Zen Saying) I can’t begin to tell you how often this has been my mantra to motivate me; both in my personal, and professional life. Self-doubt is part of being human and is a major roadblock as to why most of us hold back in some area of our lives. I don’t pretend that I will be the next Hudson’s Bay Company, nor am I trying to be, but I certainly plan on being passionate, dedicated and happy while following this path. If I can inspire just one of your readers to take that leap of faith in an area of their life that they have been holding back, then I feel so thankful and privileged to be that voice of encouragement. It is in my DNA to be a cheerleader and motivator! I also just recently stumbled across the quote “I didn’t come this far to only come this far”. I sometimes say that to myself if I feel like I have hit a little blip in the road. It’s so simple, but very powerful.

We hope you enjoyed reading about Little Blue Canoe. You can find our paperclips and mirrors in the shop along with other amazing items that are made in Canada.
