On September 27th 2014 we had the honour of participating in the first nation wide Etsy Made in Canada Pop-up Market. The event took place at Robson Square in Vancouver and in various cities across Canada. It was a beautiful and warm autumn day for this very lovely local craft fair.
It was one day event hosted by Etsy Vancouver and the Emily Carr Etsy Team, that ran from 10am-5pm and featured 57 local artists and crafters. With weather on our side, a great high traffic venue, and great planning and promotion, this was a highly successful event for many of the vendors.
We came well prepared with new products and a whole new booth set-up! Our new set-up featured many wood elements and whimsical details like little mini trees and even a little wooden bench for our MomoBunnies.
We were also well stocked with many amigurumi crochet stuffed toy keychains of our popular bunnies and bears with the addition of our new panda bears as well.
Our new Pocket Mirrors and Momo Totes canvas tote bags also made their first appearance in Vancouver for this Etsy Market.
We were particularly proud of the new display for our polymer clay keycharm keychains which included new lighting to highlight the shine and colours of our charms. Many people commented on our use of different levels to display our products and we found this to be very effective as this allowed people to see our products even from a distance if they were caught behind a crowd.
Comparing to our previous set-ups, we can definitely see how we’ve grown and how much we’ve learned from being at other markets. We definitely feel more prepared for this event than we had for any previous event!
It was unfortunate that we did not get the chance to do our usual rounds to visit all of our fellow vendors and take photos, but with the event being an extreme success, everyone was quite tied up with customers! Many vendors sold out of items and one vendor even had to pack up early! We were lucky to be neighbors with our friend Emi of ByEmilyAli.etsy.com and were able to grab some quick pictures with her before the event started.
We really wish we had the chance to do a bit of shopping ourselves as there were so many talented vendors at this event! The organizers did a great job! The event also received lots of amazing feedback from social media following the event. A great re-cap blog post was written by Suzie Ridler, many photos were shared on Facebook and Instagram, and kind comments were shared all around on Twitter. A big thanks to Jessica (donutmon) who was kind enough to take this candid photo of us at the Etsy Market. Thanks for being such a sweet fan!
We’ll share more over the next while but would first like to give another big thanks to all of our supporters. It’s such an overwhelming feeling to have customers approach us now and tell us “I follow you on Instagram!”, “Are you M & S?” and recognize us and our brand. Seriously, thank you all so so very much! We can’t say it enough.
