Plush You! 2015 at Schmancy in Seattle, WA

Category Archives: Events

It’s with much excitement that we announce that Momomints will be a part of the Plush You! show this year at Schmancy in Seattle, WA! Schmancy is an adorable store filled with toys and gifts for all ages!  We’ve always wanted to participate in the annual Plush You! show that happens at the store and we’re so glad we could be a part of it this year among many other talented crafters from around the world.

For this year, we created two special edition Momomints products for the show: a princess jumbo Momobunny and fuzzy winter panda.

With the show so close to Halloween we wanted to dress one of our plush toys in costume. So we decided to make a princess bunny with a crocheted crown! Instead of using gem stones for the crown we sewed on tiny wooden buttons.

For the second item we decided to do a Winter theme one. With some extra soft and fuzzy yarn, we made a winter Panda complete with a matching scarf and wooden heart button.

Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival

Hello Kitty’s Supercute Friendship Festival

Hi! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! This past weekend I attended the Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival that took place at the PNE Forum building. It was a fun for all-ages event celebrating Hello Kitty and her friends. There were tons of photo-op opportunities, face painting, temporary tattoo area, Hello Kitty Post Office, concert events and HK exclusive event merchandise for sale. For this special event I crocheted a Hello Kitty bow to wear. Below is the pattern for the Hello Kitty bow if you’d like to make one for yourself too! It’s a simple pattern that can be completed in a single evening.

A Crochet Pattern
For A Cute Hello Kitty Bow

Materials

1 skein of worsted acrylic yarn in red
F size crochet hook
Yarn needle
Headband or Hair clip

Abbreviations

sc = single crochet
st = stitch
bst =back stitch
rnd = entire round
dec = decrease stitch
inc = increase stitch
sl st= slip stitch
(# st) = # number of stitches in the row

Pattern

In this pattern we use a crocheting technique called the Magic Circle as well as some basic crochet stitches. Please familiarize yourself with these techniques before continuing. There are many crocheting tutorials available on the web and on YouTube that are readily available.  We have listed a few helpful reference links at the end of this pattern.

Row 2:  sc st rnd (10 st)
Row 3:  inc1 every stitch (20 st)
Row 4:  sc st rnd (20 st)

Assembly

After making two bows, you can start assembling the Hello Kitty bow.  Take each bow front side out and start sewing the edges together. You can also crochet the ends together using a single crochet stitch if you want as well. We did this with our Hello Kitty bow. This will give it a nice seamless finished edge look.

Now take the two Bow Centers and sew them to the center of your bow.
You have now finished your very own Hello Kitty bow!

Attach your Hello Kitty bow to a comfy headband or a hair clip and you’re ready to show off your cute creation!

Glittery Paper Gems at the Etsy Craft Party at West Elm

Glittery Paper Gems at the Etsy Craft Party at West Elm

After attending such an amazing Etsy Craft Party last year hosted by Emi of whiskersandlipstick, we were excited to join Etsy Vancouver for another Craft Party this year with Rachel of RachelRainbow at the beautiful West Elm Vancouver.

We love attending these events to meet new crafters and catch up with our fellow Etsy sellers. Most of the attendees aren’t even Etsy sellers, but those who just want to learn something new. Some attendees are artists but haven’t yet tried selling on Etsy before! With a good mix of individuals, it’s cool to share our experiences and answer questions to those unfamiliar with Etsy.

A tip to those who do sell on Etsy: always bring/wear one of your Etsy items. It’s a great conversation starter and a great way to share what you do on Etsy!

The theme for this year’s Etsy Craft Party was “Paper Taking Shape”. Rachel, our host, decided to teach us all how to make paper gems! If you know Rachel, this craft project was very much “her”.

We were given templates to cut out and trace. Then with some careful patience, lots of cutting and glue we were able to assemble some colourful 3D gems.

These gems were then attached to a ring with some string to make a cute little mobile!
