Momomints Booth at Etsy Vancouver’s Made in Canada Pop-up Market 2015 at Robson Square

Last month we had the privilege of being a vendor once again at the Etsy Vancouver Made In Canada Market at Robson Square in Vancouver, BC.  It was such a whirlwind day full of excitement! We were lucky that it was nice and sunny on that day despite being famously known as ‘Raincouver’. There were plenty of shoppers that came to check out and support the local Etsy shops. Etsy Vancouver just recently released some stats and this year there were 4x the number of attendees than last year! We didn’t get a chance to walk around to see all the vendors and our friends but we did manage to quickly check out the following Etsy shops:

Rachel and Eli of Onanaknits at the Etsy Made in Canada Market

Our dear friends Eli and Rach of OnanaKnits with their oh so cute pineapple keychains and adorable snug cozies. They can customize a snug cozy to your own choosing. Check them out here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/OnanaKnits

Another one of our fellow craft pals Cheryl of Quirky Paper Co. She sells one of the most unique and quirky cards. We always find ourselves stocking up on her cards at her booth every market. Check them out here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/QuirkyPaperCo

Art+Soul Creative Co at the Etsy Vancouver Made in Canada Market

We first met Laura of Art + Soul Creative Co. over on IG and finally got a chance to meet in person! She makes beautiful art prints and greeting cards using various types of mediums including watercolour and acrylics.
Check them out here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/artandsoulcreativeco

This was just a teeny tiny selection of all the Etsy shops that were selling that day. We really wish we could’ve visited every booth! We’re already so excited for next years market! It has grown so much in just 2 short years. Big thanks to the Etsy Vancouver team and the volunteers that day for pulling off such a successful market!!

And of course a big heartfilled thanks to everyone who came by our booth and supported us! It was great meeting new friends, seeing familiar faces and finally meeting some fellow IG followers! You help shape what Momomints is today. THANK YOU!

This year we’ll be joining 75+ local vendors ranging from handmade jewellery and candles to cute bookmarks and cards.  We’ll also be bringing more products with us this year, so expect to see even more cute amigurumi and polymer clay creations and accessories.

Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival

Hello Kitty’s Supercute Friendship Festival

Hi! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! This past weekend I attended the Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival that took place at the PNE Forum building. It was a fun for all-ages event celebrating Hello Kitty and her friends. There were tons of photo-op opportunities, face painting, temporary tattoo area, Hello Kitty Post Office, concert events and HK exclusive event merchandise for sale. For this special event I crocheted a Hello Kitty bow to wear. Below is the pattern for the Hello Kitty bow if you’d like to make one for yourself too! It’s a simple pattern that can be completed in a single evening.

A Crochet Pattern
For A Cute Hello Kitty Bow

Materials

1 skein of worsted acrylic yarn in red
F size crochet hook
Yarn needle
Headband or Hair clip

Abbreviations

sc = single crochet
st = stitch
bst =back stitch
rnd = entire round
dec = decrease stitch
inc = increase stitch
sl st= slip stitch
(# st) = # number of stitches in the row

Pattern

In this pattern we use a crocheting technique called the Magic Circle as well as some basic crochet stitches. Please familiarize yourself with these techniques before continuing. There are many crocheting tutorials available on the web and on YouTube that are readily available.  We have listed a few helpful reference links at the end of this pattern.

Bow:
<Using the red colour yarn and F size crochet hook>
<Make two of these>
Foundation chain 12 st
Row 1:  sc st, sc st rnd the foundation chain  (25)
Row 2:  inc1, 11 sc st, inc1, 5 sc st, 5 sc bst  (27)
Row 3:  inc1 bst, inc1 bst, 12 sc bst, inc1 bst, inc1 bst, 6 sc bst, 6 sc st  (31)
Row 4:  (inc1 3 times, 12 sc st)* repeat*  (37)
Row 5:  (inc1 5 times, 6 sc st, dec1, dec1, 5 sc st)* repeat*  (43)
Row 6:  (inc1 6 times, 6 sc st, dec1, dec1, 6 sc st)* repeat* (51)
Row7:   50 sc st, sl st  (51)

Bow Center:
<Using the red colour yarn and F size crochet hook>
<Make two of these>
Magic circle 5 st
Row 1:  inc1 every stitch (10 st)
Row 2:  sc st rnd (10 st)
Row 3:  inc1 every stitch (20 st)
Row 4:  sc st rnd (20 st)

Assembly

After making two bows, you can start assembling the Hello Kitty bow.  Take each bow front side out and start sewing the edges together. You can also crochet the ends together using a single crochet stitch if you want as well. We did this with our Hello Kitty bow. This will give it a nice seamless finished edge look.

Now take the two Bow Centers and sew them to the center of your bow.
You have now finished your very own Hello Kitty bow!

Attach your Hello Kitty bow to a comfy headband or a hair clip and you’re ready to show off your cute creation!

Free Amigurumi Crochet Potted Cactus Plant Plattern by Momomints

Can you believe it’s already July?! We’re half way through the year which means we are already busy planning and prepping for the busy holiday season! It seems a bit crazy to be thinking about Christmas ornaments in July but we’re pretty excited about all the things we have planned. Which you will have to wait and see 🙂

In the meantime, we found an old pattern for a cactus bunny pin cushion. M made this pincushion to store all her pins and needles when assembling the amigurumis so they don’t get lost. Plus the pins and needles look like the cactus spikes. Please continue reading for the free amigurumi cactus bunny pin cushion pattern!

Glittery Paper Gems at the Etsy Craft Party at West Elm

Glittery Paper Gems at the Etsy Craft Party at West Elm

After attending such an amazing Etsy Craft Party last year hosted by Emi of whiskersandlipstick, we were excited to join Etsy Vancouver for another Craft Party this year with Rachel of RachelRainbow at the beautiful West Elm Vancouver.

We love attending these events to meet new crafters and catch up with our fellow Etsy sellers. Most of the attendees aren’t even Etsy sellers, but those who just want to learn something new. Some attendees are artists but haven’t yet tried selling on Etsy before! With a good mix of individuals, it’s cool to share our experiences and answer questions to those unfamiliar with Etsy.

A tip to those who do sell on Etsy: always bring/wear one of your Etsy items. It’s a great conversation starter and a great way to share what you do on Etsy!
