Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival

Hello Kitty’s Supercute Friendship Festival

Hi! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! This past weekend I attended the Hello Kitty Supercute Friendship Festival that took place at the PNE Forum building. It was a fun for all-ages event celebrating Hello Kitty and her friends. There were tons of photo-op opportunities, face painting, temporary tattoo area, Hello Kitty Post Office, concert events and HK exclusive event merchandise for sale. For this special event I crocheted a Hello Kitty bow to wear. Below is the pattern for the Hello Kitty bow if you’d like to make one for yourself too! It’s a simple pattern that can be completed in a single evening.

A Crochet Pattern
For A Cute Hello Kitty Bow

Materials

1 skein of worsted acrylic yarn in red
F size crochet hook
Yarn needle
Headband or Hair clip

Abbreviations

sc = single crochet
st = stitch
bst =back stitch
rnd = entire round
dec = decrease stitch
inc = increase stitch
sl st= slip stitch
(# st) = # number of stitches in the row

Pattern

In this pattern we use a crocheting technique called the Magic Circle as well as some basic crochet stitches. Please familiarize yourself with these techniques before continuing. There are many crocheting tutorials available on the web and on YouTube that are readily available.  We have listed a few helpful reference links at the end of this pattern.

Bow:
<Using the red colour yarn and F size crochet hook>
<Make two of these>
Foundation chain 12 st
Row 1:  sc st, sc st rnd the foundation chain  (25)
Row 2:  inc1, 11 sc st, inc1, 5 sc st, 5 sc bst  (27)
Row 3:  inc1 bst, inc1 bst, 12 sc bst, inc1 bst, inc1 bst, 6 sc bst, 6 sc st  (31)
Row 4:  (inc1 3 times, 12 sc st)* repeat*  (37)
Row 5:  (inc1 5 times, 6 sc st, dec1, dec1, 5 sc st)* repeat*  (43)
Row 6:  (inc1 6 times, 6 sc st, dec1, dec1, 6 sc st)* repeat* (51)
Row7:   50 sc st, sl st  (51)

Bow Center:
<Using the red colour yarn and F size crochet hook>
<Make two of these>
Magic circle 5 st
Row 1:  inc1 every stitch (10 st)
Row 2:  sc st rnd (10 st)
Row 3:  inc1 every stitch (20 st)
Row 4:  sc st rnd (20 st)

Assembly

After making two bows, you can start assembling the Hello Kitty bow.  Take each bow front side out and start sewing the edges together. You can also crochet the ends together using a single crochet stitch if you want as well. We did this with our Hello Kitty bow. This will give it a nice seamless finished edge look.

Now take the two Bow Centers and sew them to the center of your bow.
You have now finished your very own Hello Kitty bow!

Attach your Hello Kitty bow to a comfy headband or a hair clip and you’re ready to show off your cute creation!

Free Amigurumi Crochet Potted Cactus Plant Plattern by Momomints

Can you believe it’s already July?! We’re half way through the year which means we are already busy planning and prepping for the busy holiday season! It seems a bit crazy to be thinking about Christmas ornaments in July but we’re pretty excited about all the things we have planned. Which you will have to wait and see 🙂

In the meantime, we found an old pattern for a cactus bunny pin cushion. M made this pincushion to store all her pins and needles when assembling the amigurumis so they don’t get lost. Plus the pins and needles look like the cactus spikes. Please continue reading for the free amigurumi cactus bunny pin cushion pattern!

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We took the time to rest up and reflect on the past year. 2014 had so many wonderful “Momomints”. It definitely was a busy one for us.  Thank you for all your continuous support! Looking forward to making 2015 even better.

Last year we released our first free amigurumi pattern – Fluufie the amigurumi sheep. We’re so happy with the positive feedback we got. It’s definitely one of our most fluffiest amigurumi! So we’re super excited that this Chinese New Year is also the year of the Ram or Sheep. On February 19, many people around the world will be welcoming in the year of the Ram or Sheep. To celebrate we’ve recreated our Fluufie the sheep into a cute ram.

Momomints Chinese New Year 2015 Limited Edition Ram Sheep Momofluufie Free Pattern

To create your own amigurumi ram please follow our amigurumi sheep free pattern here but substitute the ears part with the following to create the horns for the ram:

MATERIALS

1 skein of worsted acrylic yarn in yellow colour (Loops & Threads, Medium Weight 4)

PATTERN

Ears:
<Using the yellow yarn and F size crochet hook>
Magic circle 3
Row 1:  inc1, sc st rnd (4 st)
Row 2:  inc1, sc st rnd (5 st)
Row 3-7:  sc st rnd (5 st)
Row 8:  inc1, sc st rnd (6 st)
Row 9-11:  sc st rnd (6 st)
Row 12:  inc1, sc st rnd (7 st)
Row 13-16:  sc st rnd (7 st)

Crochet two of these.

ASSEMBLY

Roll up each of the horns so they look curled up. Then secure in place by sewing straight through the roll so it doesn’t uncurl.  Afterwards you can sew them onto either side of the sheep body.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use a slightly bigger crochet hook when working with the fluffy yarn because it’ll be easier to see and feel where to place your stitches.
  • Try practicing with worsted acrylic yarn first to get a feel for the pattern before using the fluffy yarn.
  • The body of the sheep will expand a lot when stuffing.
  • Try using different colours and yarn weights to achieve different looks.
